This pizza gets my vote!

So you’re probably already aware that Portland has been voted the top pizza destination in the country. As reported in Bloomberg News, Modernist Pizza co-authors Nathan Myhrvold and Francisco Migoya declared Portland as the best pizza city in the country. Why? Well it’s not for our deep dish, or for the perfect NY-style slice. No, it’s because we’re known to have just about every single kind of pizza imaginable, and so much of it is so darn good. Testament to the strong food scene that we are all quite aware of, it’s not a huge surprise that Portland takes the cake. All that said, with the Best of Portland voting scene upon us for 2023 where one can vote for their favorite across all types of services and businesses throughout the city, the very best pizza has its own category. And yet, one of the best pizzas I’ve ever bitten into is not on this list. That’s nothing against the Best of Portland contest as, typical with Portland, there are just so many great places to get a great pizza pie. In any case, I can say that I just had the most delectable pizza experience that would have put the Portland on the “best-in-the-country” pizza map, even if it was the only establishment offering such fare citywide. So where was this great za? Caffe Mingo. A smaller, Italian eatery on NW 21st avenue, which I did not previously know offered hand-scratch pizzas…well, it just blew my mind. Check out the pictures and menu below. Can’t say enough.

While dining at Caffe Mingo, I asked permission to take a few pictures. Featured here is chef Jack Bobson. While not putting a pie into the wood-fired oven in this shot, you can see Jack’s infectious smile and clear passion for the industry in which he is a master. And why you can’t vote for Caffe Mingo in the best pizza category this year, maybe you’ll get to next? Either way, the best vote you can cast here is going there and consuming one of these wonderful creations.
