Our Emerald Coast

While not typically referred to as “The Emerald Coast,” a name is more typically given to the one hundred-mile stretch of sand and sea that lines the Gulf Coast of Florida, the magic on offer from our Pacific Northwest beaches conjures up just about every term used to describe beauty. And when you’re out in it, swimming, surfing, diving, it envelopes you even further. I’ve decided to share some images and short video clips of being out in the waves off of Northern Cannon Beach, Or. These GoPro shots and the small video I made from the footage are all from that electrically-warm Saturday we had back on April 17; remember that? It was one for the ages.

I made this short video to showcase some rough but interesting GoPro footage we shot on April 17, out amongst the monoliths north of Cannon Beach, Or. We had a great swim out using a very powerful rip current (BEWARE!!!) and caught a few waves on camera as well. Apologize for the VERY grainy wave riding footage…super zoom is to blame. Enjoy! No question the ocean and beaches of the PNW are some of the prettiest in the world. And to capture this dramatic beauty from the water itself…so much the better.

Fancy Surfing on the PNW Coast?

If you’d like to try surfing down at the coast here, there are several options for renting gear and finding lessons. Check out Gorge Performance (in Portland) for gear rental, retail, and lessons. Down at the beach, it’s Cleanline Surf Shop (Seaside and Cannon Beach) for the best deals, rentals, and the most-seasoned instructors. But when it’s all said and done, and it’s time to re-charge, hit up Bill’s Tavern in Cannon Beach for a great burger and local surf legend pics.
