The Garden and the Fridge

So it’s the dead of winter right now. One must only step outside in the morning to feel the bitter cold, usually punctuated by a glean of white frost covering most surfaces. And yet when we get these blue sky days as we have right now, spring feels just around the corner. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. There are still many fun things to do here in the PNW while winter reigns.

Enter this year’s video shot up on the slopes at Timberline Lodge…an annual celebration of fantastic snow and tree runs that make winter something fellow snowboarder and filmmaker Mark Perrin and I look forward to each 365. We make one of these videos annually to chronicle what we think is “the best day.” We’re not always correct on this, but I think we’ve been more right than wrong, often getting lucky on the conditions and the ability to get there in a flash. The day chronicled below has yet to beat! As for the title? “The Garden (a.k.a. “The Devil’s Garden”) and The Fridge (a.k.a. “The Refrigerator”),” which notate two of our favorite spots at Timberline that hold un-cut snow most of the day, even when the rest of its slopes are tracked out. I guess the only secret here is exactly where these little stashes of powder are? Well, for another time. Enjoy!

Some great powder on 12/31/21, the last day of the year! We’re looking for more days like this! Video: Dan Meyers & Mark Perrin
