NW Music Video Showcase

I remember the early days of MTV with the first V-jays and the constant display of the American flag getting planted on the moon by Neil Armstrong amid wild, rock n' roll colors spooling off the regolith. Personal video cameras were large, expensive and hard to come by in those days, yet nevertheless a clear tradition of creative, music-inspired video production was spawned right here in Portland. Check a giant video camera out from the library and make a skate video! Borrow one from your mom's work and create a dreamy, Depeche Mode-inspired production complete with your own keyboard music and singing! Well, I did both of these things back then, as did many others...and our city has carried a torch ever since.

Continually innovating and releasing excellent music video works through years, today the Portland/NW music video scene is as vibrant as ever. And this year's featured lineup of soon-to-be-released, locally-produced music videos is being showcased at a FREE watch event upcoming at the Jupiter Hotel. While the music will be very eclectic as a whole, this event promises to impress with an incredible collection of talent.

Like the advent of the cell phone, which does just about everything other than cook your dinner, the ability to easily shoot high quality video has really changed the landscape. Long gone are the days of "trying to find a camera." Now, everyone has one...and the number of videos produced every day, by the average citizen, threatens to break the planet's ability to store digital media. And while this last bit may sometime soon be true, what's definitely happening today is prolific, intensely creative music video production that delights, awes and drives the next batch into fruition. Head to the Jupiter Hotel to have a view and come back entertained and inspired.
